If youve made it this deep into my
cyberspace web then you must have an interest in at least learning a
little more about astronomy andwhats out there. I can
understand that urge. For over 5 years I have been drawn to this
subject, as a student, with ever-expanding wonder and curiosity. New
discoveries in the cosmos are occurring at the rate of one or more per
day, at an ever-quickening pace, and, the more we learn, the more
fascinating the universe becomes.
Heres my basic point of view; were
all on this rock togetherthe third from the sun. Were not a
star you knowthe sun is our starat about 92 million miles away.
Its pretty hot, as are all stars. Our suns surface temperature is
measured in millions of degrees. When the sun burps out some plasma,
it can fly out there tens of thousands of milespretty amazing.
So, were on this rock together, that hasnt exactly cooled off
itself. After millions of years, our rock is still hot enough to vent
molten rock thousands of feet into the skywith just one burppretty
incredible stuff.
Now, take a step outside the boxyour
box, for a minute, and just consider gravity, the thing that binds
us to this rock and the mysterious force that affects all in our
universe. Thats a good thing, toobecause when you look at the
slightly bigger picture you see that this rock were all riding on is
the worlds best thrill ride. Thats rightthink about itwere out
here in spaceone rockorbiting one starthat is one of billions of
stars in our galaxy, The Milky Way, that is one galaxy of hundreds of
billions of galaxies that each have billions of starsI think
youre starting to get the picture.
Back to the thrill ridewere walking
around, driving around, doing all the things we do, without feeling or
ever thinking about these undeniable facts. We, all of us, are
currently spinning around on this rock at approximately 1,000 miles
per hourdepending upon where we are on it. I think its
pretty amazing that we dont fly off. If that wasnt enough to get
you thinkingand I do hope you will think about this stuffwe
are also flying through space in our annual trip around our starat
67,000 miles per hour. By now Im sure you get my point, its a
big universe out thereand when we step outside our boxes a bitthere
is much to see and learn.
Presented here are 19 links that I would call Master Links. Through
